I had the pleasure of attending the NECANN Boston cannabis convention and conference this past weekend, and let me tell you, the energy and enthusiasm from the Massachusetts cannabis community was palpable. From educators to speakers, consumers to vendors, the Hynes Convention Center in Boston was buzzing with activity.
Let's start with the weather - it was freezing! As soon as I landed at Logan airport, I was shivering. Navigating Boston always confuses me; I never know if I'm going north or south, constantly moving through tunnels. Despite the cold, I managed to explore Blue Hill Avenue and stayed in an Airbnb in Dorchester. Being in that area always fills me with pride, given its rich history, especially for Black people. Pure Oasis, a dispensary in the heart of Dorchester, was on my list to visit, and I made sure to thank them for their support.
Now, onto the conference. Day one was bustling from the get-go. The Massachusetts cannabis market is competitive, but there's a strong desire to specialize and create unique craft products. Walking into the exhibition hall, I was pleasantly surprised by the creativity on display. It wasn't just tables and chairs; there were interactive experiences everywhere. From yoga sessions promoting the benefits of cannabis to booths with music and engaging activities, the atmosphere was inviting and homey.
I must admit, I was disappointed to find the M4MM booth tucked away upstairs in the 2nd exhibition hall. It definitely needed more visibility and promotion. Nonetheless, we made it work, and every encounter reaffirmed the support for our organization and the Black cannabis community.
During my panel discussion on the intersection of healthcare and cannabis, the room was packed with engaged individuals asking insightful questions. We discussed crucial issues such as insurance benefits, safe access, and the need for healthcare professionals to be better educated about cannabis.
After the panel, meeting with attendees left me feeling uplifted. Their gratitude and eagerness to collaborate reminded me why I'm passionate about this work. In addition, I met some incredible people with innovative brands, sparking ideas for potential partnerships with Blac Buddha Cannabis.
I want to give a special shoutout to Derrel Black with Mello for organizing a fantastic inclusive event on Friday night. The event space was incredible with best in class hospitality provided by the team at Diaspora. The night was a vibrant celebration of the cannabis industry, and I left feeling inspired.
In closing, I want to commend NECANN for creating spaces where we can come together, learn, do business, and celebrate this incredible plant. Let's continue lifting each other up and advancing the industry with camaraderie and collaboration.
Until next time, stay lifted, stay connected, and let's keep pushing for progress. Thank you, NECANN Boston, can't wait to see you in Maryland!
