The Lingering Shadows of TBI

Three years ago, my life changed in an instant. A car collision left me with a traumatic brain injury (TBI), and while the physical wounds healed, the invisible ones lingered. I struggle with persistent headaches, short-term memory lapses, difficulty concentrating, and episodes of anxiety—especially when driving. Depression often looms, making daily tasks feel insurmountable.
Driving a business and non profit while navigating the complexities of the cannabis industry adds another layer of stress. The ever-evolving regulations, market volatility, and the responsibility of leading in this space can be overwhelming. Stress, as studies have shown, can exacerbate TBI symptoms, intensifying cognitive and emotional challenges.

Embracing Holistic Healing
In my journey toward recovery, I’ve discovered the profound benefits of holistic practices:
• Exercise & Stretching: Engaging in regular physical activity and stretching routines has improved my circulation, reduced muscle tension, and enhanced my overall well-being.
• Meditation: Mindfulness meditation has been instrumental in grounding me, reducing anxiety, and improving my focus.
• Breathing Techniques: Practices like deep diaphragmatic breathing have helped regulate my nervous system, offering moments of calm amidst chaos.

The Therapeutic Power of Cannabis
Cannabis, particularly strains rich in CBD, has been a cornerstone in my healing journey. Research indicates that CBD possesses anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties, which can be beneficial for TBI patients. An optimal CBD to THC ratio, such as 10:1, has shown promise in promoting neuroprotection and aiding cognitive recovery .
One strain that has resonated deeply with me is Black Buddha Blyss. This hybrid offers a balanced experience, providing relaxation without sedation. Its terpene profile, rich in myrcene and pinene, contributes to its calming and focus-enhancing effects .

Diverse Delivery Methods for Personalized Care
Understanding that each individual’s needs are unique, exploring various cannabis delivery methods can be beneficial:
• Inhalation: Methods like vaping offer rapid relief, which can be helpful during acute episodes of anxiety or pain.
• Oral Consumption: Edibles and tinctures provide longer-lasting effects, suitable for sustained symptom management.
• Topicals: Cannabis-infused creams can target localized pain without psychoactive effects.
It’s essential to consult with healthcare professionals to determine the most appropriate method and dosage for individual needs.

Embracing the New Normal with Grace

Each day presents its challenges, but I’ve learned to extend grace to myself. Recognizing that this is my new normal has been empowering. I celebrate small victories, acknowledge setbacks without judgment, and continue to seek balance. Through holistic practices and the therapeutic benefits of cannabis, I navigate this journey with resilience and hope.
